Unalakleet Replacement of the Water Distribution System and Water Service Lines Environmental Assessment Public Notice and FONSI

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT IN UNALAKLEET, ALASKA
WITH THE VILLAGE SAFE WATER

May 2025

Notice of Availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the complete water main replacement in Unalakleet, Alaska under management of Village Safe Water (VSW). The FONSI includes the following construction activities:

All water mains and service lines in Unalakleet will be replaced. Portions of the mains for each loop will be rerouted from their existing layout in order to lie within established rights-of-way.
All water main valves and hydrants along the mains will be replaced, as will the flow meter, temperature and pressure gauges, and pressure booster pumps for each water loop.
The proposed project will also repair or replace arctic boxes and install or replace circulation pumps in all homes.

ACTION: Finding of No Significant Impact
SUMMARY: This notice advises the public that an EA and FONSI for the proposed water main replacement in Unalakleet, Alaska are available for public review. The public review period will last 30 days from the date of Public Notification.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Village Safe Water has prepared an EA for the water main replacement for the City of Unalakleet, Alaska. The purpose of the proposed action is to address deficiencies in the water distribution system and reduce impacts on local health and safety caused by the existing system that is deteriorating. Based on the EA, Village Safe Water has determined the proposed action will not have a significant impact on the quality of the human environment.
