NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has received a Multi-Agency Application for Permits to Mine in Alaska (APMA) for Hardrock Exploration & Reclamation in the Juneau Mining District, near the community of Haines. APMA forms include applications for Miscellaneous Land Use Permits (MLUPs), Approved Plan of Operations, and Reclamation Plan Approvals for mining operation.

This notice is pertaining to the Department’s review and adjudication of an application for an Approved Plan of Operations pursuant to 11 AAC 86.150 & 11 AAC 86.800. for Hardrock Exploration activity as well as reclamation approval on state lands. Winter cross country travel on state lands not within state mining locations may also be authorized. Other state land use outside of the mining locations, if any, will be adjudicated by DNR separately.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

Sections 25 & 26, Township 28 South, Range 53 East, Copper River Meridian

Sections 29 & 30, Township 28 South, Range 54 East, Copper River Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The applicant has requested authorization via a new application for a continuation of previously permitted sonic geotechnical drilling, hydrogeological monitoring, seismic refraction studies, and associated access construction. These activities are located on 16 state mining claims within the Haines State Forest Resource Management Area near Glacier and Plateau Creek. Please see the full application packet and plan of operations in the attachments at the bottom of this notice. This notice pertains to the proposed activities on the 16 state mining claims only. Comments regarding activities on the adjacent federal claims or Mental Health Trust lands are outside the scope of this notice.

This is a notice provided to the public and you are invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Fairbanks Mine Permitting Office, 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above.
