NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Pogo Mine Plan of Operations Approval (F202439500POOA) and Reclamation Plan Approval (F20249500RPA) – Renewal of Hardrock Mining Activities and Expansion of the Dry Stack Tailings Facility.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has received requests to issue the Plan of Operations Approval (F20249500POOA) and Reclamation Plan Approval (F20249500RPA) for Pogo Mine’s continued operations of mineral extraction, development, processing, and reclamation in the Goodpaster Mining District near the community of Delta Junction.

This notice is pertaining to the Department’s review and adjudication of the Pogo Mine Plan of Operations pursuant to 11 AAC 86.800 for hardrock mining operations as well as reclamation approval on state lands.  Reclamation must be completed pursuant to Alaska Statutes 27.19 (Reclamation) and the Alaska Administrative Code, Title 11 (Natural Resources) and Chapter 97 (Mining Reclamation).

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

Sections 30 & 31, Township 5 South, Range 15 East, Fairbanks Meridian

 

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Northern Star Resources, Ltd. is requesting approval for a new five-year authorization to continue its hardrock underground mining and milling operations.  This includes an expansion of the Dry Stack Tailings Facility to continue current mining operations.  All proposed mining activities and reclamation are outlined in their Pogo Mine Plan of Operations and Reclamation and Closure Plan (Attached).

This notice is provided to the public and the public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity.  To ensure consideration any person wishing to submit a request for additional information or provide comments regarding this application may do so electronically via our public comment site Comments here. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
