The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas (Division) received a Geophysical Exploration Permit Application from SAExploration on October 21, 2021, requesting authorization to conduct a seismic survey during the 2021–2022 winter season on the North Slope of Alaska. Per 11 AAC 96.030, the Division is providing notice and an opportunity to comment. The proposed seismic survey will be adjudicated under 11 AAC 96.010.

Applicant: SAExploration (see application for contact information)
Project ID: MLUPNS 21-003
Location: See application for MTRS
Project Description:

The project is located on State of Alaska, Kuukpik, Inc, and federal lands, near the village of Nuiqsut, within the North Slope Borough. The survey will cover 59 square miles, with state lands accounting for 30 square miles. The survey will be performed via vibroseis using nine rubber-tracked vibrators. A mobile camp will support the survey operations and remain close to the survey activities, moving every 2–5 days depending on the survey progress and snow cover. Narwhal Phase II has an anticipated start date of January 15. The project will conclude when the seismic program is complete or when conditions no longer support winter tundra travel.

The application package is available for review at the Division’s Permitting Section, 550 West 7th Avenue, Suite 1100, Anchorage, AK 99501, or online at http://dog.dnr.alaska.gov/Newsroom.
