The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas (Division) received a request for approval of a Lease Plan of Operations (Plan) on October 1, 2021, from Great Bear Pantheon LLC, (Great Bear) to carry out the Theta West 1 Exploration Well. The proposed project will be adjudicated under AS 38.05 and 11 AAC 83.346. The Division is providing public notice and an opportunity to comment.

Project Description:

The Plan proposes to drill one exploration oil well, Theta West 1, on Oil and Gas Lease ADL 394039. The project is located approximately 15 miles west of the Dalton Highway, near the confluence of the Toolik and Kuparuk Rivers. A 10.5-mile ice road will be constructed from the Talitha A ice pad to access the site. The Theta West 1 ice pad will measure approximately 520 feet x 240 feet, for a total area of 124,800 square feet. Great Bear will drill approximately 9,300 feet below the ground surface, using Nordic-Calista Rig 3, to evaluate multiple targets in the Brookian interval. All operations will be performed from the ice pad. Facilities used for the operation will include a satellite office camp, storage areas, and maintenance buildings. All facilities will be temporary.
