The Foundation Partnerships meeting purpose is to explore options for a potential public-philanthropic partnership between one or more philanthropic Foundations and DHSS. The common goal of both foundations and the government is a determination to use our respective resources to find solutions to best meet today’s challenges. Specifically, the Department is seeking input and ideas for how best to use new funds for addressing COVID-19 health disparities in Alaska.

The CDC recently announced a new grant opportunity entitled “National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities.” DHSS is slated to receive a significant share of this grant, that is planned to be disbursed across the state. We are seeking to partner with philanthropic leaders in the state to help manage this distribution effort to local communities. This meeting is an exploratory discussion with Alaska’s philanthropic foundations about what is feasible and would potentially be most effective in achieving the grant objectives.
