REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
GCI installed a submarine fiber-optic system under ADL 107619 in 2017. A section of this fiber optic cable easement (61,490 feet long by 30 feet wide) located between Ketchikan and Wrangell, crosses over four power cables owned by Southeast Alaska Power Authority (SEAPA) in the Stikine Straits. SEAPA suffered a failure of one of these four cables and is requesting GCI to remove the fiber-optic cable from its current position over the power cables. GCI is seeking approval to remove the existing portion of the cable and relocate it from the permitted easement granted to GCI by the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to the new location in Chichagof Passage.

Recovery & Redeployment: August 2020 – September 2020
Easement term: 25 years
DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: 5 pm on June 1, 2020
The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at PO Box 111020 Juneau, AK 99811-1020 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above.
