Subject: Funding Opportunity: FFY 25Maritime Preservation & Education Grants
The Office of History and Archaeology (OHA) is accepting applications for two competitive 50/50 matching grants funded by the National Maritime Heritage Grants Program: The Maritime Heritage Preservation Grant and the Maritime Heritage Education Grant. Eligible applicants include state, federally recognized tribal, and local governments, as well as private nonprofit organizations. All projects must be completed by March 1, 2029.
Funding Details: The Grants Program supports Maritime Heritage Preservation and Education projects focused on three categories of historic maritime resources: Historic Maritime Properties, Maritime Heritage Collections, and Traditional Maritime Skill.
- Historic Maritime Properties include maritime districts, sites, buildings, structures, objects, and archeological resources associated with naval, navigational, or commercial maritime activities, generally 50 years or older or of exceptional importance.
- Maritime Heritage Collections include objects, documents, and archeological materials that support the preservation and interpretation of U.S. maritime history, such as artifacts, archival records, small craft, works of art, and excavated shipwreck components.
- Traditional Maritime Skills include historic naval, commercial, and navigational skills passed down through generations—often manual, craft-based, or specialized techniques that are no longer widely practiced or taught in modern training programs.
- Maritime Heritage Preservation - $547,547
- Federal Share Request: Minimum $15,000; Maximum $75,000
