Final Best Interest Finding, Decision, and Adoption of the Forest Land Use Plan 
for the
Tuxekan Timber Sale (SSE-1392-K)

 The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, gives formal notice under 11 AAC 02 (Appeals) that the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has made a final best interest decision under AS 38.05.035(e) and has also adopted a site-specific Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) under AS 38.05.112 and the administrative standards of AS 41.17.060 for the following commercial timber sale: Tuxekan Timber Sale (SSE-1392-K).

The area of the sale is located approximately 1 mile to the west of the Naukati community harbor. The timber sale area is found within Sections 13, 14, 23 and 24, Township 69 South, Range 79 East, Copper River Meridian (CRM). The sale area is found within the Craig D-4 NW and Craig D-4 SW USGS quadrangles. The access to this sale area is by Tuxekan Island’s isolated road system. The sale area is located approximately 1.5 miles north of the Nichin Cove Log Transfer Facility (LTF) and accessed by the USFS 1470020 and 1470020.7 roads.

One harvest unit totals approximately 188 acres and contains approximately 5,000 MBF of timber.  This volume will be advertised and sold under provisions of AS 38.05.120, in the form of one or multiple sales.  The sale (s) will be separately noticed later.

The Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has made a written final decision that the sale is in the best interest of the State.  This decision sets out the facts and applicable policies upon which the Director based his determination that the proposed timber sales will serve the interest of the State.  The final decision is issued as of August 6, 2025.  Copies of the Final Best Interest Finding and Forest Land Use Plan are available for review at the division’s Southeast Area Office, the division’s web site and at the State Online Public Notice web site: http://notice.alaska.gov/220428.  

A person who has standing under Alaska law may request a reconsideration in accordance with 11 AAC 02. Any reconsideration request must be received within twenty (20) days of issuance of this decision. The request may be mailed or delivered to John Boyle, Commissioner, Department of Natural Resources, 550 W. 7th Avenue, Suite 1400, Anchorage, Alaska 99501; faxed to 1-907-269-8918, or sent by electronic mail to dnr.appeals@alaska.gov.

If no reconsideration is filed by that date, this decision goes into effect as a final order and decision 30 days after signature.
