DOT&PF Notice of Geotechnical Investigation: Haines Highway Restoration MP 2.3 to 3.7

Project # SFHWY00724

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to address ongoing pavement issues caused by frost heave, poor drainage and underlying soil conditions in two areas of the Haines Highway. To support this project, DOT&PF will conduct a geotechnical investigation underneath the surface of the roadway at MP 2.3 and 3.7.

The work will be carried out by drilling through the surface of the road at certain points and would result in temporary impacts on traffic in the drilling areas. Drivers can expect single lane closures with flaggers.

Work is projected to begin October 2026 and will take an estimated four days and conducted during daylight hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated April 13, 2023, and executed by FHWA and DOT&PF.
