Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development

October 13-14, 2026

The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will convene its regular quarterly board meeting and business meeting on October 13–14, 2026, in Sitka, Alaska. The meeting will take place at Mt. Edgecumbe Highschool, 130 Seward Avenue.

The quarterly board meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Members of the public may participate either in person or virtually via Zoom.

The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items starting at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. Public comment may be made for this meeting during this time by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://education-alaska-gov.zoom.us/j/87907832961 by calling (833) 928-4609 (toll free) and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad (Meeting ID 879 0783 2961).

Please note that public testimony may extend for up to two hours. The Board may adjust the agenda as needed. This includes extending the oral hearing to accommodate individuals present at the start of the public testimony who have not yet had an opportunity to speak or close the public comment period early and proceeding to the next agenda item if testimony concludes before the time period.

The purpose of the meeting is to hold a professional development workshop, a work session, a business meeting, and an executive session.

Topics for the professional development workshop will include school tours; committee meetings, reports, and discussion; and a presentation on the State Education Agency Action Plan.

Topics for the work session are anticipated to include a presentation by Mt. Edgecumbe High School; Green to Teach Initiatives; consideration of the Mt. Edgecumbe Ad Hoc Committee update; the Mt. Edgecumbe Land Use License; Regulations for Public Comment Administrative Order 360 (AO 360): Strategic Plan SMART Goals; Aurora Charter School; HomeSTEAD Charter School; and an executive session.

Topics for the business meeting are anticipated to include public comment; the Commissioner’s Report; consideration and approval of the Mt. Edgecumbe Land Use License; consideration of the SBOE Strategic Plan SMART Goals; Regulations for Public Comment AO 360; Aurora Charter School; HomeSTEAD Charter School; questions regarding standing reports; consideration of the consent agenda, including approval of the June 3-4, 2026, meeting minutes; and board member comments.

The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board reserves the right to adjourn earlier or later than estimated time on the agenda.
