State of Alaska Opens Public Comment Period for 2022 Chignik Salmon Fishery Disaster Initial Draft Spend Plan

On May 24, 2024, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the Alaska Chignik Salmon Fishery, 2022, under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a January 5, 2024, request from Governor Dunleavy. On June 10, 2026, NOAA Fisheries allocated $18.5 million to address losses to the affected management areas. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, has drafted an initial spend plan and is now requesting public comments from affected stakeholders.

Comments should be received by August 14, 2026, to be considered for the second draft of the spend plan.

A second draft of the spend plan will be available for public comment before the plan is finalized.
