The Commission was established in 1973 to administer the Act (16.43.010). The stated purpose of the Act is to promote the conservation and sustained yield management of Alaska’s fishery resources. Additionally, the Act seeks to uphold the economic health and stability of the commercial fishing industry in Alaska.
The CFEC will conduct a public meeting under the Open Meetings Act (AS 44.62.310) on September 2, 2026, at 10:30 am. At the meeting, the Commission may review future meeting schedules, review permit fees, upcoming outreach activities, proposed regulations, personnel, policy and budget matters, fishery-related issues, and legislative issues. The Commission will not be accepting any public comments or testimony during this meeting. Public comments on proposed regulations will be accepted in writing until 5:00pm on August 31, 2026, per the Notice of Proposed Regulations, published on July 27, 2026.
