Project No. SFHWY00691/0958
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) will conduct a geotechnical drilling investigation to assess the subsurface conditions of Douglas Highway between Milepoints 1.75 and 1.87, near the intersection of Capital View Court and Crow Hill Drive. This information will be used to support the planning and design of a retaining wall in this section of the highway.
DOT&PF will complete six borings in the sidewalk and shoulder on the east side of Douglas Highway and collect soil samples for analysis.
What to expect:
Work is projected to begin July 20, 2026, and is expected to take approximately 4-6 days to complete. Work will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day.
During this work, the bus stop in this area will be temporarily relocated a few hundred to the north end of the project site on Douglas Highway.
Temporary closures of the eastbound shoulder and sidewalk on Douglas Highway will occur within the project area.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated April 13, 2023, and executed by FHWA and DOT&PF.
Development of the proposed project will follow the process required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Based on the project location and scope of work, the environmental document is anticipated to be a categorical exclusion. Resources that may be affected include invasive plants and cultural or historic properties.
