NORTHERN REGION
SEASONAL VEHICLE WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS

Issue Date: May 28th, 2026

Seasonal weight restrictions apply to all vehicles over 10,000# GVW. Weight restrictions are
now in effect within the Northern Region at the locations specified below. These weight
restrictions are stated as a percentage of legal allowable weight and shall be applied to the
maximum axle loading in accordance with 17 AAC 25.013(e).

Alaska DOT&PF Northern Region boundaries extend from Mile 163 Parks Highway north
and from Mile 118 Glenn Highway north-east, and from Valdez on the Richardson Highway
north to Fairbanks. Road systems within Cordova and Nome are also within the Northern
Region.

Until further notice, no seasonal vehicle weight restrictions will apply to the Elliott Highway:
MP 0 to 72, or to the Dalton Highway: MP 0 to 414.

Effective Friday May 29th 2026 at 8:00 AM:

The following roads will return to summertime permitting. Overweight load applications
can be submitted in order to obtain approval for hauling overloads, by contacting the
Measurement Standards & Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (MSCVE) group, at (907) 365-
1200.

Parks Highway MP 163 to 356 (Cantwell to Fairbanks)
Richardson Highway; MP 0 to 330 (Valdez to Johnson Road)
Glenn Highway; MP 118 to MP 189 (NR boundary to Glennallen)
Alaska Highway MP 1222 to 1421 (Canadian Border to Delta)
Tok Cutoff MP 0 to 124 (Gakona to Tok)

The following roads will be restricted to 100% of legal axle load, and with 100% legal
axle loads allowed on the drive axles of approved Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) of
90’ or more with at least two trailers (no overloads):

All other State maintained roads in the Fairbanks North Star Borough unless otherwise
restricted.

The following roads will be restricted to 85% of legal axle load (no overloads):

Steese Highway MP 21 to 81
Johnson Road MP 0 to 1.5 (Intersection of Richardson Hwy to 1.5 mile)
All other State maintained Roads in Tazlina, Copper Center, and Glenallen unless
otherwise restricted

The following roads will be restricted to 75% of legal axle load (no overloads):

All state-maintained roads in the Healy area
Elliott Highway MP 73 to 150 (Livengood to Manley)
Taylor Highway
Edgerton Highway
Lake Louise Road
Clearwater Road (Delta)
Jack Warren Road (Delta)
Remington Road (Delta)
Henderson Road
Johnson Road MP 1.5 to 11
Murphy Dome Road
Old Nenana Highway
Spinach Creek Road

The following roads are restricted to 50% of legal axle load (no overloads):

Denali Highway
Tofty Road
Nabesna Road
McCarthy Road
Nistler Road (paved portion only, at Delta)
Quartz Lake Road (Delta)
Hanson Road (Delta)
Sawmill Creek Road (Delta)
Tanana Loop (Delta)
Tanana Loop Extension (Delta)
All State Maintained Roads in Delta unless otherwise restricted
Ester Dome Road
Old Valdez Trail/Old Rich Hwy (off Stringer Road)
St. Patricks Road

Additional restrictions and modifications will be imposed as necessary. Weather and
pavement conditions are being monitored closely. An electronic copy of DOT&PF’s weight
