Final Best Interest Finding, Decision

for the

Northwest Coffman Timber Sale (SSE-1395-K)

 

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, gives formal notice under 11 AAC 02 (Appeals) that the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has made a final best interest decision under AS 38.05.035(e) for the following commercial timber sale: Northwest Coffman Timber Sale (SSE-1395-K).

 

The area of the sale is proximate to the community of Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island. The timber sale area is found within Sections 33 and 34, Township 67 South, Range 81 East and Sections 2, 3, and 4 Township 68 South, Range 81 East, Copper River Meridian. The sale area is found within the Craig B-3 USGS quadrangle. The main access for this sale area is from the existing Prince of Wales Island Road System, specifically off the 3030500 road, tributary to the Coffman Cove Highway.

 

The area of harvest totals approximately 365 acres of timbered land and contains approximately 7,600 MBF of timber.  This volume will be negotiated and sold under provisions of AS 38.05.118, in the form of one or multiple sales.  The sale(s) will be a negotiated contract requiring purchaser layout and in-state manufacture.

 

The Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has made a written final decision that the sale is in the best interest of the State.  This decision sets out the facts and applicable policies upon which the Commissioner based his determination that the proposed timber sale will serve the interest of the State.  The final decision is issued as of May 27, 2026.  The Final Best Interest Finding is available for review at the division’s Southeast Area Office, the division’s web site and at the State Online Public Notice web site:

A person who has standing under Alaska law may request a reconsideration in accordance with 11 AAC 02. Any reconsideration request must be received within twenty (20) days of issuance of this decision. The request may be mailed or delivered to John Crowther, Commissioner, Department of Natural Resources, 550 W. 7th Avenue, Suite 1400, Anchorage, Alaska 99501; faxed to 1-907-269-8918, or sent by electronic mail to dnr.appeals@alaska.gov.

 

If no reconsideration is filed by that date, this decision goes into effect as a final order and decision 30 days after signature.
