CENTRAL REGION
SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Issue Date: April 13, 2026
Weight restrictions are stated as a percentage of legal allowable weight and shall be applied to the maximum axle loading of 17 AAC 25.013(e).
The Central Region boundaries extend from Homer on the Sterling Highway and
Seward on the Seward Highway to Mile 118 on the Glenn Highway and Mile 163 on the Parks Highway. The Dillingham and Bethel road systems are also included within the Central Region.
Effective Monday, April 20, 2026, at 8:00 A.M. The following State maintained roads are restricted to the following:
AREA-WIDE WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
- All (except for the following individual roads listed below) state maintained paved roads in the Anchorage, Eagle River, and Girdwood areas (south of Eklutna interchange MP 28.6 Glenn Hwy and north of Seward Hwy MP 75 at Ingram Creek Bridge) – 75%
- All (except for the following individual roads listed below) State maintained paved roads in the Matanuska-Susitna area (south of Parks Hwy MP 163 / south of Glenn Hwy MP 118 and north of the Eklutna Interchange) – 75%
- All State maintained gravel roads in the Matanuska-Susitna area (south of Parks Hwy MP 163 / south of Glenn Hwy MP 118 and north of the Eklutna Interchange) – 50%
- All (except for the following individual roads listed below) State maintained paved roads in the Kenai Peninsula area (south of Seward Highway MP 75 at Ingram Creek Bridge) – 75%
- All State maintained gravel roads in the Kenai Peninsula area (south of Seward Highway MP 75 at Ingram Creek Bridge) – 50%
- All State maintained paved and gravel roads in Bethel area – 75%
INDIVIDUAL ROAD WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The following roads are restricted to 100% of legal axle load, no overloads:
- 5th & 6th Aves
- A & C Streets
- Benson Blvd
- Boniface Pkwy
- Dimond Blvd
- Dowling Rd (Lake Otis to Raspberry Rd.)
- Gambell St
- Glenn Hwy MP 0 to MP 118
- I & L Streets
- Ingra St
- International Airport Rd
- Kenai Spur Hwy: MP 5 to MP 38.4
- Minnesota Dr
- Muldoon Rd
- N. Birchwood Lp (Glenn Hwy. to Old Glenn Hwy.)
- Northern Lights Blvd. (Postmark Dr to Lake Otis)
- O’Malley Rd (Old Seward Hwy. to New Seward Hwy.)
- Ocean Dock Rd
- Old Glenn Hwy. MP. 0 to MP. 8.1 (Artillery Rd. to Ski Rd.)
- Parks Hwy (Glenn/Parks Interchange to MP 163)
- Portage Glacier Rd
- Post Rd
- Postmark Dr
- Reeve Blvd
- South Aircraft Dr
- S. Birchwood Lp (Glenn Hwy. to Old Glenn Hwy.)
- Glenn Hwy – MP 0 to MP 118
- Sterling Hwy:
- MP 37 to MP 44
- MP 55 to MP 157
- MP 169 to MP 175
- Seward Hwy:
- MP 0 to MP 26
- MP 37 to MP 125
- Kenai Spur Hwy: MP 5 to MP 38.4
- Swanson River Rd
- Tudor Rd
The following roads are restricted to 85% of legal axle load with 100% legal axle loads allowed on the drive axles of approved Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) of 90’ or more with at least 2 trailers on the following roads (no overloads), unless otherwise indicated:
- MP 44 to MP 55
- MP 157 to MP 169
- Seward Hwy: MP 26 to MP 37
- Kenai Spur Hwy: MP 0 to MP 5
- Bridge Access Rd
- Kalifornsky Beach Rd
The following roads are restricted to 50% of legal axle load, no overloads:
- Old Seward Spur (Anchorage)
- Big Lake Rd (Wasilla)
- Hollywood Rd (Wasilla)
- Vine Rd (Wasilla)
- Pittman Rd (Wasilla)
- Church Rd (Wasilla)
Additional restrictions and modifications will be imposed as necessary.
Authorized Weight restrictions will only be posted on the DOT&PF Division of Measurement and Standards and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (MSCVC) webpage. Weight Restrictions posted on 511 or any other posting are for information only. The most recent published public notice will supersede any conflicting information from other sources. Questions pertaining to overweight and oversized load permits, permit fees, and permitting process for State of Alaska roadways can be directed to the DOT&PF MSCVC Customer Service Center at 1-800-478-7636 (within Alaska) or 1-907-365-1200 (out-of-state). The Department of Public Safety and the DOT/PF MSCVC Vehicle Enforcement will be enforcing these restrictions.
