The State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is requesting public comment and information on the proposed Taylor Highway American Creek No. 2 (#842) Retrofit Project; State Project Number NFHWY01186.
The purpose of the project is to complete rehabilitation activities to ensure structural integrity of an existing bridge. The project is located on the Taylor Highway Milepost 152.5, at the American Creek No. 2 (#842) bridge.
The project will stabilize the deformation of and strengthen the steel abutment at the northern end of the bridge. The work will involve adding steel pieces approximately 2 feet long to the top of the abutment cap at each of the four girders. Equipment will operate from the bridge deck, and no in-water work is required. The project would have a minor encroachment into the floodplain of the American Creek bridge.
Construction for the proposed project is expected to begin in 2026.
The project is being developed in accordance with the following special purpose regulations including Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act; Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; and the following Executive Orders (EO): EO 11988 (Floodplain Management); EO 11990 (Wetlands Protection); EO 11593 (Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment); and, EO 13112 (Invasive Species).
