Notice of Intent to Begin Engineering and Environmental Studies - Richardson Highway MP 15-18 Resurfacing

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) proposes to resurface the Richardson Highway from Milepost 15 to 18. Project work will include vegetation clearing and grubbing, ditching, signage and guardrail replacement, striping and bridge work to include maintenance. The project will improve roadway performance and maintain safe travel.

Material sites that will be made available for contractor use include Sheep Creek Pit (MS 71-1-028-5), Lowe River Quarry (MS 71-1-050-5), 12 Mile Pit (MS 71-1-040-5) and MS 71-1-032-5.

We are currently working on conceptual designs, engineering, and environmental studies, as well as soliciting public comments. Construction is currently planned for 2027.

DOT&PF requests information and comments on resources in the project area that may be affected including historic properties, archaeological sites, wetlands, and floodplain encroachment. The following Executive Orders (EO) apply:

EO 11988, Floodplain Management
EO 13112, Invasive Species
