Alaska Highway Safety Office Announces FY27 Grant Application Period

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF) Highway Safety Office (HSO) is pleased to announce that the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Highway Safety Grant Application Period is now open through April 30.

Alaska DOT&PF invites local governments, Alaska Native organizations, non-profit agencies, law enforcement, and community partners to apply for funding to support projects that improve highway safety across Alaska.

About the Program

The Highway Safety Office administers federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to support programs that reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Alaska’s roadways.

Grant-funded projects focus on evidence-based strategies aligned with Alaska’s highway safety priorities, including:

  • Impaired driving prevention
  • Occupant protection (seat belts and child safety seats)
  • Speed and aggressive driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Pedestrian and bicycle safety
  • Traffic records and data improvement

Who Should Apply

Applications are encouraged from organizations that can implement effective safety programs, including:

  • Municipal and tribal governments
  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Schools and universities
  • Community and public health organizations

Applicants are encouraged to carefully review all guidance materials prior to submission to ensure proposals align with federal requirements and statewide safety priorities.
