Coldfoot Staging Area

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Walter Lanigan, dba Lanigan’s Retreat Chandalar

PROJECT NAME: LAS 32617

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
The site is located at Coldfoot Staging area at approximately MP175 of the Dalton Hwy behind Coldfoot Camp.  See attached map.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:
Township 28 North, Range 12 West, Section 15, Fairbanks Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Northern Regional Land Office (NRO), has received a land use permit (LUP) application from Walter Lanigan for the continued staging and storage of equipment at the Coldfoot Staging area.  The LUP will be in support of the staging and storage of lodge and mining equipment and supplies at the site year-round.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:

5-year term: 2026-2031

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS:
Public comments are due by March 17, 2026.

The public is invited to comment on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK  99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
