Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development

March 10-11, 2026

The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will convene its regular quarterly board meeting and business meeting on March 10–11, 2026, in Juneau, Alaska. The meeting will take place at the Andrew P. Kashevaroff Building, 395 Whittier Street.  The quarterly board meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Members of the public may participate either in person or virtually via Zoom.

The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items starting at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. Public comment may be made for this meeting during this time by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://education-alaska-gov.zoom.us/j/87907832961 by calling (833) 928-4609 (toll free) and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad (Meeting ID 879 0783 2961). When public comment is over, the meeting will continue to be broadcast at the above website.

Please note that public testimony may extend for up to two hours. The Board may adjust the agenda as needed. This includes extending the oral hearing to accommodate individuals present at the start of the public testimony who have not yet had an opportunity to speak or closing the public comment period early and proceeding to the next agenda item if testimony concludes before the time period.

The purpose of the meeting is to hold a professional development workshop, a work session, a business meeting, and an executive session.

Topics at the professional development workshop will include a presentation on the Alaska Reads Act Evaluation Report and the Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, an overview of the Alaska Career Guidance Demonstration Project, and reports and discussion from State Board committee meetings.

Topics at the work session will include administration of the oath of office for a new board member; review of the school construction and major maintenance list; a legislative and budget update; the Mt. Edgecumbe High School report; consideration of the Alaska State Blue and Gold Ribbon School Recognition Resolution; and a charter school renewal.

Topics at the business meeting will include approval of the school construction and major maintenance list; approval of a charter school renewal; approval of the Mt. Edgecumbe High School Ad Hoc Committee; and adoption of the Alaska State Blue Ribbon School Recognition Resolution. The board will also hear standing reports from department divisions, receive the Commissioner’s report, and consider approval of the January meeting minutes.

The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board reserves the right to adjourn earlier or later than estimated time on the agenda.

Immediately following the professional development workshop, the advisory board of the Alaska Public School Trust Fund will hold its annual meeting at the Andrew P. Kashevaroff Building, 395 Whittier Street. This meeting will discuss the financial position of the fund’s invested assets as of June 30, 2025, with a current month update.
