The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and construction contractor QAP are hosting two public open houses for the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements Milepost (MP) 82.5 to 94 Advanced Clearing project in March 2026 to share information about early construction activities beginning on March 2, 2026.

Come learn about right-of-way (ROW) clearing activities, ask questions, and share comments directly with the project team. The meetings will be open house format. Meeting materials will be available on the project website by March 3, 2026. Comments can be submitted during the meetings, online, or in writing.
QAP and its subcontractors will be onsite beginning March 2, 2026, to start construction on the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements project between milepost (MP) 82.5 and 94. Construction for this initial phase will consist of clearing trees and shrubs within DOT&PF right-of-way (ROW). Stockpiled wood from clearing activities will be stored at 42140 Sterling Highway in Soldotna (across from the Birch Ridge Golf Course). No mechanical loading will be permitted. Please plan to load wood by hand. Project Overview
DOT&PF has identified the need for the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements MP 82.5 to 94 project. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and reduce congestion for people and motorized traffic traveling along the Sterling Highway. This project will provide highway travelers with a safer and more reliable roadway supporting efficient movement of goods, services, and people while accommodating the seasonal increase of tourist and recreational traffic.
