Proposed Final Individual Permit Modifications
to Discharge to Waters of the United States

Following the closure of a 30 day public notice period, DEC has prepared an APDES proposed final individual permit modification for Trident Seafoods Corporation which operates the Trident Seafoods Saint Paul Plant. Prior to making the final decision to issue the individual permit modification, DEC invites you to view the proposed final individual permit modification and associated documents. This review period is to allow the permittee the opportunity to review the proposed permit prior to final issuance. Comments from the general public were accepted during the Public Notice period of December 8, 2025 through January 7, 2026, and will not be accepted during this review period. Discharge Project and Location:  
DEC proposes to issue an APDES modification of the AK0053490 Trident Seafoods – Saint Paul Facility individual permit. The permit was first issued October 24, 2024 and went into effect January 1, 2025. The proposed permit modification authorizes waste and wastewater discharge from a crab rearing operation. 

Description of Discharges:  
The facility proposes to rear king crab, with a maximum feed rate of 0.75 pounds per day and a maximum crab yield of 22 pounds annually. The resulting waste and wastewater (50 gallons per minute) will be discharged through Outfall 001A after being filtered, sent through a heat recovery system, and neutralized.

The APDES preliminary draft permit, fact sheet, and associated documents are available for public review at the DEC offices located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Soldotna, and Wasilla.
