PRELIMINARY DRAFT PERMIT
TO DISCHARGE TO WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES
DEC has prepared an APDES preliminary draft permit for the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Preliminary Draft Permit and associated documents are available to the applicant for a 10-day review. Following the close of the 10-day applicant review period, DEC will prepare a draft permit and fact sheet for a formal 30-day public review period.
Public comments will be accepted during the formal 30-day review period. You can access the documents on DEC’s Wastewater Discharge Authorization Program webpage at: https://dec.alaska.gov/water/wastewater

Proposed Project and Location:
The discharge of secondary treated domestic wastewater from the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Plant. Discharge will occur at a maximum daily rate of 4.9 million gallons per day to the Mendenhall River at 58° 21’ 43” North latitude 134° 35’ 53” West longitude. Seasonal mixing zones are proposed for total ammonia as nitrogen, copper, zinc, dissolved oxygen, Escherichia coli bacteria, fecal coliform bacteria, temperature, and whole effluent toxicity. A five-year compliance schedule is proposed for copper.
