REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from University of Alaska (UA) Land Management for the installation of one Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) device anchored seasonally to state submerged land within the Yukon River, near Galena. The ADCP device would collect data such as water velocity, depth, and ice thickness to better understand the water flow under frozen rivers. The ADCP device would consist of a gravity-based anchor, the ADCP unit with associated bottom mounting mooring platform, and an attached R500 Acoustic Release for retrieval. The bottom-mount ADCP and anchoring system would be installed from October 2025 to May 2026 at a single point, 900 feet southeast of the Edward G. Pitka Sr. Airport. The ADCP and anchoring system would be deployed and retrieved over the side of a local motorboat. All equipment would be removed at the end of May 2026.
