NOTICE OF INTENT TO BEGIN ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
Project Title: ANC TW Z EXTENSION WEST – PHASE 1
Project No.: CFAPT00929
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is soliciting comments and information on a proposal to extend taxiway (TW) Z westward by approximately 2,800 feet from TW R South to Taxiway H at Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, AK. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve access to the existing South Airpark, future cargo area developments, and to support a future full-length parallel taxiway on the south side of runway (RW) 7R/25L.
The proposed work would include:
- Extend TW Z westward by approximately 2,800 feet
- Extend existing TW H between the new TW Z and existing RW 7R/25L
- Relocate approx. 1,900 feet of existing service road
- Construct a new TW exit from RW 7R/25L to the new TW Z
- Install new or relocate existing, utilities and lighting
- Demolish two buildings at the shooting range
- Drainage improvements
- Vegetation clearing and grubbing
This project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 11593 (Historic Preservation), 13084 (Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments), the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f).
Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in summer 2026. To ensure that all possible factors are considered, please provide written comments to the following address by September 30, 2025).
