Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development

June 3-4, 2025

The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will hold a regular quarterly board meeting and a business meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3-4, 2025, via audio conference. Public participation for the meeting will be through the digital platform Zoom. The board meeting will begin on June 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., and continue with a work session and business meeting starting at  8:15 a.m. on June 4, 2025. The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items starting at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. Public comment may be made for this meeting during this time in person or by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81993911102or by calling 1-215-8782 (toll free) and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad (Meeting ID 819 9391 1102). When public comment is over, the meeting will continue to be broadcast at the above website.

The purpose of the meeting is to hold a work session, a business meeting, and an executive session.

Topics at the work session include a presentation and request for Conditional State approval UAA MS in Psychology Program, MEHS Advisory Board Member selection AK Reads Act evaluation - year one, Board discussion on updating the SBOE strategic plan, State Board of Education Committee Meetings, Office of Education Advocacy regulations, Native Language Standards for K-3 Reading regulations, Local Contribution regulations, MEHS Budget review, and legislative and budget update.

Topics at the business meeting include the approval for Conditional State approval UAA MS in Psychology Program, approval of the MEHS Advisory Board Member selection, regulations for Alaska Native Language Standards for K-3 Reading, Office of Education Advocacy, and Local Contribution Regulations. The board will hear the Commissioner’s year-end report, and will consider approval of the selection of meeting dates, subcommittee appointments, the selection of officers, the minutes of March 11, 2025, meeting minutes, the Career and Technical Education Committee Awards for Recognition Program, and the approval of the Administrative Services Director.

The Executive Session will include the DEED Commissioner Evaluation.

The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board also reserves the right to adjourn at a time earlier or later than estimated on the published agenda.
