The Limited Entry Act (the Act) limits the number of commercial fishing permits allowed to operate within designated fisheries in Alaska. The Commission was established in 1973 to administer the Act (16.43.010). The stated purpose of the Act is to promote the conservation and sustained yield management of Alaska’s fishery resources. Additionally, the Act seeks to uphold the economic health and stability of the commercial fishing industry in Alaska.
The CFEC will conduct a public meeting under the Open Meetings Act (AS 44.62.310) on April 24, 2025, at 10:00 am. At the meeting, the Commission may review future meeting schedules, review 2025 fees, upcoming outreach activities, proposed regulations, personnel, policy, and budget matters, fishery-related issues, and legislative issues. The public is invited to attend this meeting via the Microsoft Teams call information above, or in person in the Commission’s Conference Room, 8800 Glacier Hwy, Suite 109, Juneau. By April 18, 2025, a tentative agenda will be posted in the Commission office. The agenda will also be available by request.
