Re-Opening Public Comment Period for Tanana Valley State Forest Management Plan Revision

Notice for Re-Opening of Public Review: Tanana Valley State Forest Management Plan

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) extends by 30 days the period for public comment on the proposed revisions to the management plan for the Tanana Valley State Forest (TVSF). DOF elects to extend the comment period to allow the public an opportunity to review changes that were identified as necessary at this stage of revision, including:

• Inconsistent page numbers corrected
• Deletion of outdated information describing public use cabins that no longer reflect DOF goals
• Chapter 4, Recommendations for Additions and Withdrawals from the Tanana Valley State Forest was revised to include a list of past recommendations from the 2001management plan and their outcomes, a list of current recommended parcels for addition to the TVSF as identified in the ETAP and YTAP, and language addressing future recommendations or additions.

The management plan includes summary descriptions of the TVSF land base and guidelines for management of natural resources within the state forest boundary under legislatively mandated principles of sustained yield and multiple use (AS 41.17.210). The draft will remain open for review through December 17, 2024. Comments received during the notice period ending on November 18, 2024 will be considered and addressed in the Issue Response Summary that will be released for review with the draft for publication later in the revision process.

A draft of the revised management plan is available online at https://forestry.alaska.gov/TVSFrevision. Hard copies will also be available at the Fairbanks DNR Public Information Center and the Tok and Fairbanks-Delta Area DOF offices.
