Parks Hwy Nenana River Bridge at Rex (#0216) Replacement
Project No. NFHWY00788
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is soliciting comments on the proposed replacement of the Nenana River Bridge at Rex Crossing near MP 276 on the Parks Highway (Attached: Figure 1). Other project activities include paving and striping, replacement of signs, replacement of guardrails, and vegetation clearing and grubbing. Replacement of the bridge will require a work trestle on the south side of the existing bridge and a temporary bridge placed on the north side of the bridge to be used as a detour route.
We are currently working on conceptual designs, engineering, and environmental studies. Construction is currently planned for summer 2028.
Portions of the existing Nenana River Bridge at Rex Crossing are within the base floodplain of the Nenana River in the form of bank protection (riprap) at both ends of the bridge and three piers. The project is being developed in accordance with the following Executive Orders (EO):
EO 11990, Notice of Wetland Involvement
EO 12898, Environmental Justice
EO 11593, Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment
EO 11988, Floodplain Management
EO 13112, as amended by EO 13751, Invasive Species
