PROJECT SUMMARY AND LOCATION: ADF&G has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply pesticide to waters of Knik Lake near Wasilla to control invasive Northern Pike.
The proposed products is Prentox Rotenone Fish Toxicant Powder with EPA registration number 89459-32 and active ingredient rotenone. Treatment is proposed to occur once in October throughout the duration of the permit.
PROJECT NEED: The presence of illegally introduced invasive Northern Pike in this area threatens native fish, trout, and salmon. The objectives of this treatment are to completely remove the Northern Pike population from this lake and reestablish rainbow trout and coho salmon fisheries and native stickleback populations. This project would restore angling opportunities for the public and help protect critical wild fish habitat throughout the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. A pesticide use permit is required to apply pesticides to water.
