ALASKA POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM (APDES)
PROPOSED FINAL GENERAL PERMIT
TO DISCHARGE TO WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES

Following the close of a 30-day public notice period, DEC has prepared an APDES proposed final general permit for Wastewater Discharges from Drinking Water Treatment Facilities.  Prior to making the final decision to issue the general permit, DEC invites you to view the proposed final general permit and associated documents. You can access the proposed final general permit and associated documents at DEC’s Wastewater Discharge Authorization Program web page at: http://www.dec.state.ak.us/water/wastewater/

Proposed Final Permit Review

Start Date: August 1, 2024

End Date: August 9, 2024, at 11:59 PM AST

Permit No.: AKG380000

Proposed Permit Coverage:

Discharge of backwash and reject water from conventional/direct, membrane filtration, or ion exchange drinking water treatment systems to fresh or marine surface waters in the State of Alaska. Discharge shall be in accordance with the effluent limits, monitoring requirements, and other conditions set forth in AKG380000.

Mixing Zones:

Applicants may request modified effluent limits and facility specific mixing zones. DEC will authorize a mixing zone if it is consistent with the Clean Water Act and the mixing zone criteria at 18 AAC 70.240

Determination:

The DEC has determined to reissue the above listed general permit.

Administrative Record:

The APDES proposed final permit, fact sheet, and associated documents are available for public review at the DEC offices located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Soldotna, and Wasilla. Please contact the office of your choice to arrange for hard copies of the documents to be available for your review.
