The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Alaska Division of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), announce the availability of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Record of Decision (ROD) to refurbish the Hydaburg seaplane facility’s concrete approach dock and gangway, and replace the two timber floats with a new single timber/steel float. The Final EA was made available on May 16, 2024 and the FONSI/ROD is being made available for the public.

The proposed project would:
- Refurbish the existing concrete approach
- Refurbish the existing steel gangway and bearings
- Remove and dispose of the existing four (4) cantilevered piles and two (2) timber floats
- Install a new 60’ x 80’ seaplane float
- Install two (2) 20” new vertical piles and cap-beam for the gangway shoreward bearings.
- Install a new float restraint structure with four (4) 24” vertical piles and two (2) 20” batter piles.
- Install rock sockets for all vertical piles, and tension anchor four of the restraint-structure piles.
- Confirm the conditional approval of the Airport Layout Plan upon implementation of the proposed action.
Supplemental Information: The Proposed Action will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment or otherwise include any condition requiring consultation pursuant to Section 102(2)(C) of NEPA; an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is therefore not necessary.
