Notice of Application for State Air Quality Permit AQ0406MSS08, Northern Star (Pogo), LLC, Pogo Mine

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has made a preliminary decision to approve Northern Star (Pogo) LLC’s application for Air Quality Control Minor Permit AQ0406MSS08 for the Pogo Mine.

Location: Latitude 64° 27’ 13.2” North; Longitude 144° 54’ 14.6” West 38 miles Northeast of Delta Junction, Alaska

Activity: Northern Star (Pogo) LLC applied for a minor permit under 18 AAC 50.508(6) to revise/rescind Title I conditions and 18 AAC 50.508(5) for owner requested limits (ORLs).
Emissions: The change in annual potential emissions for the Pogo Mine are as follows: an increase of 2.72 tons of NOx, a decrease of 13.22 tons of CO, a decrease of 10.80 tons of PM, a decrease of 32.65 tons of VOC, and a decrease of 32.81 tons of SO2. The total annual potential emissions of regulated air pollutants, other than greenhouse gases, are 419.13 tons.

ADEC Preliminary Review: Based on review of the application, ADEC drafted a preliminary permit decision for this project under AS 46.14 and 18 AAC 50.

Opportunity for Public Participation: Any interested person may present written statements relevant to the preliminary decision within 30 days after the first publication date. ADEC will consider all comments received and make any changes ADEC finds beneficial or necessary to assure compliance with 18 AAC 50 or state law. ADEC will issue a final decision to issue or deny the permit after the close of the public comment period.
