The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to construct a four-leg, single lane roundabout at the intersection of Wasilla Fishhook Road, Spruce Avenue, and Peck Street in Wasilla, Alaska. The existing intersection has experienced a pattern of angle crashes that occur when vehicles fail to stop at the side street approaches or misjudge gaps in the mainline traffic. As traffic volumes in the area are expected to grow, the frequency and severity of these angle crashes are also anticipated to increase.
This project’s primary goal is to reduce the potential for multi-vehicle injury and fatal crashes at the intersection. To improve overall safety and traffic flow, intersection upgrades will include:
- Installing a four-leg, single-lane roundabout
- Upgrading drainage systems
- Complying with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations
- Installing roadside hardware
- Relocating utilities
- Acquiring additional right-of-way (ROW), if needed
