The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has made a preliminary decision to approve Teck Alaska, Inc.’s application for Air Quality Control Minor Permit AQ0290MSS15 for the Red Dog Mine.

Location: Latitude 68º 4' North; Longitude 162º 50' West
90 Miles North of Kotzebue, AK
Activity: Teck Alaska, Inc. applied for a minor permit under 18 AAC 50.508(5) and 50.508(6) to establish an ORL for EU ID MG-28 and remove the previously established ORL for MG-29.
Emissions: Change in emissions for the stationary source will not exceed: 9.87 tons of Nitrogen Oxides, 9.87 tons of Carbon Monoxide, 0.29 tons of Particulate Matter, 1.57 tons of Sulfur Dioxide, and 1.12 tons of Volatile Organic Compounds. The total annual potential emissions of regulated air pollutants, other than greenhouse gases, are 4,410.61 tons.
ADEC Preliminary Review: Based on review of the application, ADEC drafted a preliminary permit decision for this project under AS 46.14 and 18 AAC 50.

Opportunity for Public Participation: Any interested person may present written statements relevant to the preliminary decision within 30 days after the first publication date. ADEC will consider all comments received and make any changes ADEC finds beneficial or necessary to assure compliance with 18 AAC 50 or state law. ADEC will issue a final decision to issue or deny the permit after the close of the public comment period.
