The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking comments on the draft 2024 Integrated Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Report. Every two years, DEC reports on the condition of Alaska’s waters. This report describes the health of Alaska’s waters and includes the list of impaired (polluted) waters. The Integrated Report also helps the State prioritize waters for appropriate action such as data gathering, watershed protections, and restoration of impaired waters.

The draft 2024 Integrated Report reflects changes to previous years’ reports. Changes to existing waterbody classifications include identifying healthy waters, removing two waters from the impaired waters list, implementing an alternative waterbody restoration plan, and adding a new pollutant of concern to two waters already on the impaired list. Supporting documents, public meeting information, and the full list of waters can be found at the DEC Integrated Report website: https://dec.alaska.gov/water/water-quality/integrated-report/. A public meeting will be held virtually on July 8, 2024, from 4-6:00pm, instructions for attending the public meeting remotely can be found on the DEC Integrated Report website.

Comments can be submitted by mail to Jenny Petitt, DEC Division of Water at 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Suite 11, Soldotna, Alaska 99669-9792 or by electronic mail at jenny.petitt@alaska.gov. The full contents of all submitted comments are considered public records. The comments must be received no later than 11:59 on July 22, 2024. Comments submitted by a delivery service or by U.S. mail must be received on or before the due date.
