CITY OF OUZINKIE, SPRUCE ISLAND FARMS
Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southcentral Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: City of Ouzinkie, Spruce Island Farms
PROJECT NAME: LAS 34930
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Located off eastern Kodiak Island within the waters of Narrow Strait between the southern end of Spruce Island and Nelson Island.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: NE1/4NE1/4 Section 30, Township 26 South, Range 19 West, Seward Meridian
REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Applicant City of Ouzinkie, Spruce Island Farms is requesting a permit to place three aquatic spreader bar array systems on submerged lands southeast of Spruce Island to test the feasibility of growing sugar kelp for research purposes only in support of a future aquatic farm lease for this same location. The first array would be deployed May-June 2024 and would consist of (1) 100-foot by 10-foot spreader bar system with (2) 100-foot drop lines, (4) buoys, and secured by two danforth-style anchors. The two other arrays would be deployed at the same site between fall 2024 and removed spring 2025, and would consist of a similar system (see site diagrams). The entire length of each array is 470 feet and the systems are kept at 7 feet below the surface.

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity.
