The Boat Company Land Use Permit for Hiking in Baranof Lake Trail

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: The Boat Company

PROJECT NAME: LAS 24193

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
The subject lands are located at Baranof, and Warm Springs Bay, which is located on the east side of Baranof Island, approximately 20 miles east of Sitka.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:
All state uplands within 30 feet each side of the centerline of the existing Baranof Lake Trail, said lands lying within Section 24, T 55 S, R 66 E, CRM

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
The Boat Company is requesting a 4-year land use permit to use the Baranof Lake Trail for commercial recreational hiking. This permit would authorize guided short hikes on State of Alaska owned land along the Baranof Lake Trail. These hiking groups would consist of up to five individuals paired with a guide. Any waste generated by the groups would be packed out upon departure. They would operate seasonally between the months of May through September.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start:  May 2024
End: October 2028

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: April 3, 2024
The public is invited to comment on the proposed activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 400 Willoughby Avenue/PO Box 111020, Juneau, AK 99811-1020, or at tony.keith@alaska.gov on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue a permit with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
