Project Summary and Location:

The City of Valdez has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply pesticide to control algae and pondweed growing in Ruth Pond in Valdez. 

The proposed pesticide is Hydrothol Granular , with EPA registration number 270506-174, with active ingredient endothall. The product will be applied with a granular spreader. 

Treatment would occur between May 1 and October 1 throughout the duration of the permit. 

Project Need:

Algae and pondweed are limiting activities such as fishing and swimming in this recreational pond. Manual and mechanical control methods are ineffective or not practical for these plants.
