PROPOSED RELINQUISHMENT

On December 19th, 2023, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Realty Services Section, published a 30-day public notice soliciting comment on a proposed relinquishment of state selected lands. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing to relinquish the State’s entitlement land selection on those lands within the University of Alaska’s Ester Dome selection, totaling approximately 316.65, to facilitate conveyance of the lands to the University of Alaska.
The purpose of this notice is to extend the public comment period for University of Alaska’s Ester Dome selection for an additional 30 days to allow more time for public comment. The new deadline for submitting public comment is 4:00 pm on February 29th, 2024.
The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made. To ensure consideration, written comments must be emailed directly to the adjudicator at cody.feldman@alaska.gov, or mailed to the Division of Mining, Land and Water at Department of Natural Resources Division of Mining, Land, and Water, Realty Services Section, Attention: Cody Feldman, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 1050A, Anchorage, Alaska, 99501 on or before 4:00 p.m. on the date noted above. Requesting Input on a Proposed
Relinquishment of State Entitlement Lands
Comment Period Ends 4:00 PM, January 30, 2024
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing to relinquish the State’s entitlement land selection of surface and subsurface estates for the lands listed below. A location map is available on page 3 of this notice. The lands are not currently owned by the State, they are under federal management and ownership. The purpose of relinquishment is to facilitate University of Alaska land selections under the Consolidate Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2023 and the University of Alaska Fiscal Foundation Act.
Lands to be relinquished:
T. 1 N., R. 2 W., F.M.
Sec. 30, Lots 1-12
Containing approximately 316.65 acres.
As authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2023 and the University of Alaska Fiscal Foundation Act, the Bureau of Land Management may convey up to 360,000 acres of land to the University of Alaska. The land available for conveyance is land that has been selected by the State of Alaska pursuant to section 6(b) of the Alaska Statehood Act. If the State and the University jointly identify the land to be conveyed to the University, the State may conditionally relinquish its selection, and the Bureau of Land Management will convey the land to the University. The University of Alaska has selected the land identified above and requests the State to consider relinquishment of its selection interests.
Alaska Statute (AS) 38.05.035 allows for disposals of interests in state lands, and AS 38.05.945 provides procedures for notice of those disposals.

The public is invited to submit comments. If commenting on more than one proposed action, separate comments should be submitted for each. The deadline for public comment is 4:00 PM, January 30, 2024. Only persons from whom the Department of Natural Resources receives timely, written comment during the identified comment period will be eligible to request reconsideration of the decision.
