Notice of Review APDES Proposed Permit Kodiak Fisheries Research Center

NOTICE OF REVIEW OF AN
ALASKA POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM (APDES)
PROPOSED FINAL INDIVIDUAL PERMIT
TO DISCHARGE TO WATERS OF THE UNITED STATES

Following the close of a 30-day public notice period, DEC has prepared an APDES proposed final individual permit for the Kodiak Fisheries Research Center discharging to the Trident Basin.  Prior to making the final decision to issue the individual permit, DEC invites you to view the proposed final individual permit and associated documents. Proposed Final Permit Review

Start Date: November 9th, 2023

End Date: November 20th, 2023, at 11:59 PM AST

Proposed Permit Coverage:

The proposed discharge consists of treated seawater system effluent from research operations, marine habitat tanks via Outfall 001A located at 57.782° North latitude and 152.782° West longitude with a maximum discharge design flow rate of 110,880 gallons per day to Trident Basin. Pollutants of concern are 5-day biological oxygen demand, total suspended solids, total settleable solids, fecal coliform bacteria, enterococci bacteria, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and total residual chlorine.  

Mixing Zone:

A mixing zone for total residual chlorine is authorized by this permit for two years under a compliance schedule for installing a dechlorination system. After completion of the compliance schedule chlorine effluent limits will be regulated at the point of discharge and the mixing zone will no longer be authorized.

Determination:

The DEC has determined to issue the above listed individual permit.
