Project Title: Alaska Long Trail Fairbanks Planning & Design
Organization Name: Fairbanks North Star Borough
Date Public Notice Posted: September 29, 2023 Posted Online: September 29, 2023
Brief Description of Proposed Project:
The Alaska Long Trail is a work-in-progress world-class trail system connecting 500+ miles of Alaska's iconic terrain and diverse communities from the Pacific to the Interior, embracing the many ways Alaskans recreate outdoors and attracting visitors from all over the world. With some of the most stunning wilderness in the world, Alaska is overdue in creating a world-class long trail of its own. The vision of the Alaska Long Trail involves a multi-braid trail system connecting Fairbanks and Seward, incorporating a variety of year-round uses (motorized and non-motorized) along different braids. This project would initiate an extensive planning and design process, incorporating the ideas and feedback of the land managers, property owners, stakeholders, and Fairbanks trail community in order to move forward with building the section which falls in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
