Notice of Public Comment Period
Draft Environmental Assessment

for

Deadhorse Airport Improvements

Project #: NFAPT00549

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), announces availability for public review and comment the Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) for the Deadhorse Airport Improvements project in Deadhorse, Alaska.

The Deadhorse Airport Improvements Project (proposed action) is funded by FAA through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).  The proposed action would correct Deadhorse Airport deficiencies, address wildlife hazard safety concerns, improve drainage, and help bring the airport into compliance with FAA design standards (Part 139 Safety Enhancement) and criteria identified in the Alaska Statewide Transportation Plan (ASTP) and Alaska Aviation System Plan (AASP). The DEA considers the resources, ecosystems, and human communities of concern, as well as the geographic area influenced and potential effects by the proposed action, which vary by resource.

The environmental review, consultation, and other required actions required for the proposed action by applicable federal laws are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF and FAA. The proposed project would comply with FAA National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) implementing policies and procedures including FAA Order 1050.1F, FAA Order 5050.4B and other federal, state and North Slope Borough environmental statutes, Executive Orders (EOs) and regulatory measures as noted in Section 1.5 of the DEA.

The DEA can be accessed by several methods outline below:

1)       Electronically via the DOT&PF project website at: https://dot.alaska.gov/nreg/deadhorse/

2)       A hard copy of the DEA is available for review at the following locations:

g.       Alaska DOT&PF Maintenance and Operations office, Deadhorse Airport, Prudhoe Bay, AK 99734

Due to the low response to extensive scoping efforts for the proposed action conducted in January, 2022, FAA has considered that no formal public meeting needs to be scheduled for release of the DEA. However, should any interested stakeholder desire one to be held, they may contact the DOT&PF project manager and request a public meeting be scheduled at a convenient time and location.

Formal comments on the DEA may be provided via this Official Public Notice posting, or directly to the project manager by mail or email using the comment form provided at the project website listed above or at hard-copy locations.
