NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF AN APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF NEED
THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
The Department of Health has received an application for a certificate of need for the health care facility project described below.
Project/Activity: Establishment of One Free-standing Emergency Department.
Alaska Regional Hospital proposes to expand its existing emergency department capacity by constructing a free-standing emergency department, or as self-identified, a Hospital Satellite Emergency Department, in South Anchorage. The new construction will consist of 10,860 square feet, be a free-standing building and encompass twelve (12) emergency treatment rooms, one (1) CT Scanner, one (1) X-ray machine, one (1) Ultrasound machine, five (5) cardiac monitoring machines, one (1) portable X-ray machine, and one (1) portable C-Arm X-ray machine.
Total Cost of the Project: $17,621,000.
Estimated completion date: No later than December 31, 2024.
Applicant’s Name: Alaska Regional Hospital.
Project/Activity Service Area: Municipality of Anchorage.
In accordance with 7 AAC 07.042, notice is hereby given that any person planning to submit a certificate of need application for similar activity in the same proposed service area must submit a letter of intent to the department no later than 4:30 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2023 so that the department may prepare to conduct a concurrent review of all applications.
The letter of intent must include:
- A clear, complete, and current description of the proposed activity, including a description of each component of the activity proposed to be undertaken;
- An estimate of the total cost of the project; and
- An estimated starting date and completion date for the proposed activity.

To be reviewed concurrently, an application for a certificate of need for a similar service must be submitted within 60 days after the initial application for a service is declared complete. As soon as the initial application is declared complete, public notice will be issued and will include information on opportunities for public comment and how a copy of each certificate of need application may be reviewed.
