The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED), Division of Innovation and Education Excellence (IEE), is committed to ensuring that all Alaska students are reading at grade level by third grade. In an effort to meet this commitment, IEE is seeking a vendor to provide a three-credit asynchronous course to Alaska educators on the Science of Reading.
This proposal seeks to increase the number of Alaska educators with an understanding of what the Science of Reading is and how to implement the associated practices in their classrooms. Demonstrated proficiency in the Science of Reading by all K-3 teachers is a requirement of the Alaska Reads Act and it is the intent that educators completing the courses offered by the selected vendor will meet the proficiency requirements of the Alaska Reads Act. Classroom Educators, Reading Teachers, and Educational Leaders will be the targeted audience of this course.
