The City of Valdez has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply pesticide to algae growing in recreational pond in Valdez.
The following project is proposed and is being reviewed by the appropriate regulatory programs. DEC requests comments from the public regarding the permit application.

Project Summary and Location
The City of Valdez has applied to DEC for an aquatic pesticide use permit to apply pesticide to algae growing in recreational pond in Valdez.
The proposed pesticide is SureGuard SC, with EPA registration number 71368-114, with active ingredient flumioxazin.
Treatment would occur between May and September throughout the duration of the permit.
Project Need
Filamentous algae forms thick mats on the surface of the water, which limits swimming and other recreation in the pond. Manual and mechanical control methods are ineffective or not practical for these plants.
