Brief Description: The Board of Dental Examiners proposes to make permanent regulation changes made by emergency regulation by allowing mannequin-based exams for dental hygienist licensure.
On August 26, 2022, the Board of Dental Examiners (Board) adopted, as an emergency regulation, changes in 12 AAC 28 of the Alaska Administrative Code dealing with application process for dental hygienists, including the following:
- 12 AAC 28.320. Application for certification to administer local anesthetic agents, is proposed to amend the application process by allowing mannequin-based exams for dental hygienists applying for certification to administer local anesthetic agents.
- 12 AAC 28.935. Dental hygienist licensure by examination, is proposed to amend the application process by allowing mannequin based-exams for dental hygienist licensure by examination.
The emergency regulation took effect on August 31, 2022, and will expire December 28, 2022 unless made permanent by the Board. The Board intends to make the emergency regulation permanent.

The comments must be received not later than 4:30 p.m. on October 7, 2022. Comments received after this deadline will not be considered by the Board.

The Board may, but is not required to, answer written questions received after the 10-day cut-off date and before the end of the comment period.
