Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: University of Colorado Boulder
PROJECT NAME: LAS 34089
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: In the Goldstream Valley off both sides of Ballaine Road and within 2 miles of the road. Most of the proposed sites are within the Goldstream Public Use Area.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Within Sections 7, 8, 18, and 17 Township 1 North, Range 1 West, Fairbanks Meridian and Section 24 Township 1 North, Range 2 West, Fairbanks Meridian.
Proposed sites are centered around the following GPS point:
Latitude: 64.91940 N Longitude: 147.82201 W Datum: NAD83
REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Installation of retroreflectors at 10 – 20 sites. The retroreflectors are small mirrors mounted on poles and designed to reflect light back to a sensor on the hill to the south. The sensor is not part of this permit. The purpose of the retroreflectors is to study methane emissions from thawing permafrost. The equipment will be installed near the existing trails for easy access but in locations that do not interfere with trail use. Winter access will be via snowmachine and foot. Summer access would be via ATV and foot.

The public is invited to comment on this activity.
